Thank You

Some of these cards were made ages ago, and some others were made in December. All were meant to be Thank You cards for lecturers, ordered by a friend (I am yet to do mine).

I don't quite remember where I put the rest of the pics that I snapped - it must be in a folder somewhere. But the thing is, I'm sorting out all the Miyyah@Kertas folder in my laptop, so it's a mess and sometimes it's hard to find what I'm looking for.

Since I found these first, and it's been a while since my last post anyway, so I'm uploading these first. If I can find others, I will update again, k!

Let's start with this card:

I made this basically ages ago, and it is one of those simple, easy-to-make card that one can make in less than 5 minutes. I love simplicity, so this is one of my favourite. Not really doting on the maroon background, and need to improve a lot on my stamping skill (still messy!).

The close-up (it's paper flower, but it's not handmade by me - I bought them)

And the next card gives a bit of masculine vibe to it (I think!) since it's grey, black and white.

I HEART the butterfly, as it gives soften the card a bit, but still came out looking like a dashing, cool butterfly hehe.

Next card: blue, white, black and grey. Well, as I was digging my boxes, I realised that I have more black and white (and grey) ribbons more than any other colours! It's easier to mix and match with black and white ribbons, but I still need to buy ribbons of other colours as well. Hmm... b & w ribbons need to be banned for a while :P

Hence, this card is made totally out of ribbons hehe..

The next card is what I called the card of the wooden butterfly LOL. It's purple and pink combination, and I thought this is a contrast card to the black & white butterfly in the card above. At least metaphorically LOL. (I'm thinking too much, am I not?)

The butterfly was actually from earrings (I mentioned about it in my previous post), and as I said, I bought a lot of those at a very good, discounted price, and use them as part of my cards. It's a great way of finding great things for your craft without having to pay much. And it comes in pair as well hehe.

Next, is another favourite card, using my favourite free stuff tools - IKEA measuring tape LOL.

As I mentioned before, the good thing about black and white is that you can mix them with absolutely any colour, and the outcome will still be ok.

And last but not least, a happy butterfly card - unlike the dashing-looking butterfly, or the hard-headed purple butterfly, this one cheers you up with its vibrant colours. Yellow and orange mix really well together - striking and exciting.

Loved the texture of the yellow card. The yellow was actually a pretty strong colour, but it looked like it had been soften in the pic.

Hope these bunch of cards would cover up my absence since my last post. Will try and post sooner, once I got everything back in order. :)

Goodies for Aqiqah

Ayra Natasha must be one lucky baby.

That's what I thought during the process of making these goodies. Ayra's mum wanted specially made goodies, and handpicked each items carefully. And my task was to design the paperbags, wrap each goodies carefully and later tagged them with hand-made tags.

This is my first bulk order, so I'm very meticulous with the outcome. At first the order was for 50 goodie bags, then was later increased to 100. I think she wanted to order more, but due to time constrains, I have to stop at 100. It's been very tiring, but I think it's all worth it once I've seen the finish products.

Let's start with the invitation cards to the Majlis Aqiqah (she only wanted two for her husband's boss and office):

The cards came in two colours, and they're made with similar design concept for the whole Aqiqah event - pink and white. (p/s Ayra's parents were in the blurry background frame on the the top pic). Here's the close up for the flowers and the invitation:

As for the goodies, these were what's inside the paper bag:

Lollipop(s):

(this is how the original lollipops looked like)

Marshmallow packet(s):

Cute Pink ladybird (or was it a bug) saving(s). I totally forgot to take the aftermath pics for the saving, so it's a bit sad that I can't show how it's done here. But at least you could see the bug, right? The bug was wrapped in a tulle, and was also given a tag similar to those of lollipops.

And here's the paperbags that I made:

Altogether I've done:

100 paperbags

100 medium-size tags (for the paperbags)

100 medium-size flowers (for the paperbag tags)

300 small-size flowers (for the lollipops, marshmallow packets and the bugs) and 200 small-size tags (for the goodies)

*Pat on my back for finishing all of these on time haha*

This should be how the goodie bags looked like once all the three items were arranged inside (sorry the pic was a bit blurry - I was in a hurry!):

And last but not least, after seeing Ayra Natasha's name for the 102nd time, I finally got to meet the lucky girl:

Such a lucky cutie! (LOL for the picture-spam entry haha)

Footnote: Aqiqah is an Islamic event done to welcome a newborn baby to the world, by sacrificing animal(s) and the cooked meat were served during the occasion. Aqiqah is also known as a baby announcement event where families, friends and neighbours were invited to celebrate the blessed occasion. And sometimes during the event, (where it's more like culture-related) the newborn would have his/her first haircut.

Card-Runway (Part 3 - Final part)

Am back!

Before I start on the final part of the Card-Runway Show, there are few things that need to be clarified:

1. For the time being, I only take custom orders for anything related to papers - especially cards (all types), gift boxes, calendars etc. Whether it's only one, or in bulk, I'll try my very best to entertain to your needs.

2. It was an indescribable pleasure to have people acknowledging what you do, and appreciate your work. And everytime I have to part with my cards/craft items, it saddens me. Because only I know how much work and efforts and hearts I've put in one single item that I made. But then, I believe if I love them that much, other people will love them as much too. Hence, this was never about money (but of course, I welcome them too haha). The thing is, I made crafts only for those who are willing to appreciate them. And if you belong to the group, thank you very much, and I really appreciate that.

3. I do have some pre-made cards/ gift boxes/ quilled items in my collection, and been thinking of having one day garage blog sale to discard them. Will tell about it soon, so keep peeking ya! (P/s: might start a blog giveaway too - anyone wants some freebies?)

Okay, having that cleared up, let's go back to the Card-Runway.. the finale is finally here! Btw, like I've mentioned before, these cards were custom made for a friend (or should I start using the word customer?). She's changing job and wanted to give hand-made cards for her colleagues, as her farewell gifts. The first two cards are the final two in the 10 card collection:

Card No 9: Using simple quilling, paper cutting (at one point it looked like some cracked glass haha), and embossing.

Card No 10: Black does go well with anything.

And last but not least, this last card was meant for her boss, who's also joining a new workplace as a judge. Hence, the black and white card.

Card No 11: Please ignore the background mess haha. The trickiest part to do was arranging the tiny pearls.

And that's the end of my Card-Runway show. The process of making them was wonderful albeit the tiredness having to squeeze the creative juices from the brain. I've enjoyed making them, nevertheless. And I do hope you've enjoyed the show too. :)

Card-Runway (Part 2)

Here comes the cards for Card-Runway part 2. In continuation from the previous entry, I present four more cards from the 10+1 collection.

Card 5: One of my rare experiment using pattern papers. It might look easy to do, but it took me a while to arrange the colour combination and the design. I'm a plain paper crafter, so patterns do scare me a bit hehe.

Card 6: An updated version of this card. It's also a continuation from Card no 5.

Card 7: Totally forgot to take a close-up shot of the card. Quilled sunflowers, with an added ribbons and buttons. I also use embossing technique on the card.

Card 8: Start playing with the ribbon. And then I quilled a tree. :) One of my favs coz it's green!

There goes another four in the collection. Will try to post the final part once I can find the time to do so. Enjoy!

Card-Runway (Part 1)

I'm always a sucker for reality tv, be it Us-based, UK-based, Aussie-based or Malaysian-based reality shows, I'm all in. And one of my favs would of course be Project Runways. I've basically watched all of the previous seasons of PR USA, PR Canada, PR Australia, Project Catwalk UK and even PR Philippines hehe. The Runway USA season 6 is back (at the time of this writing, there're still 7 more designers left standing) so I'm totally hooked on that (p/s I have my online video sources).

And since I've been making a lot of cards last couple of weeks, it's an honour to present to you my very own card runway show hehe. It's a collection of 10 + 1 cards, made in request of the lovely Ms Aida, my junior during the uni years, as her farewell gifts for her colleagues.

The runway collection will be divided into 3 parts (4-4-3 combination), just because I wanted to. Hehe. So here goes Part 1 of my card runway show:

Card 1: I started the experiment with paper cutting with quilled butterfly as the highlight.

Card 2: Took one of the flowers from card 1 and turn them into quilled flowers

Card 3: The flowers then evolved into a dozen of quilled sunflowers

Card 4: Some of the flowers blossomed into this:

(I use the technique of paper punching, embossing and stamping)

Not until this project came into being that I realised there is a recurring trend of my cards. Apart from quilling, I just realised that I'm not really into pattern papers, and I'm not really good in using pattern papers for my cards (as can be seen above). However, I did try to use pattern paper on one of the cards.. but that would be in part 2 of my Card Runway project.

See ya then!
