Boyya the green crocodile

Introducing Boyya, the green crocodile.

He's a small creature the size of my palm, of which I found while trekking in Bukit Antarabangsa, Kuala Lumpur. NOT. Trekking and me will never mix haha.(I encountered him while doing Art is Enterprising workshop at Bukit Antarabangsa).

He's a lost soul, and I suspected that he simply forgot where he landed his spaceship. Boyya is a vegetarian, and loves tomatoes very much. He eats a lot of figgs too, without knowing that he's allergic to them - and causes the green spots on his body.

He'sa cheeky crocodile of a unique species, and there're only a few left in the world. He's a creature that craves for attention, and a little diva in his own green-ish way. Thus, I thought I should adopt him and made him a reluctant mascot for Miyyah@Kertas haha.

Hence, meet Boyya!

Tulips for mama

I love making cards for mothers. There's something special about showing your love towards someone who gave birth to you.

Mums love flowers. At least that's the presumption people had on mothers. Personally, I think mums will love anything made/bought by their children. It's not the items, or the price, but it's the thoughts that count. Isn't it?

I'm still experimenting on the colours. I kinda like the retro look on the photos, but at the same time I still prefer the vibrant and colourful photos I normally snap.

Nevertheless, I always thought this retro photo effect is able to create the romantic mood, and in the case of mothers, I think it's just perfect. :)

Popping Green

When everybody else is still in the looping butterflies mood after the Get-Together, I'm currently addicted to this whimsical design haha.

This was made out of personal request of a dear sister from Uni whom I haven't met in ages, for her husband's birthday.



Green has always been one of my favourite colours, and being able to do a green-theme card is fun. However, the best part of making cards for ol' buddies is that cards could create reasons for us to meet. :)

Pipit, the market

It was my first time going to a craft fair. And I had such a blast!  It was packed with people, and all the designers were so creative in decorating their small booths. Some goes for wow effects, some are cute, some attracted attention from far away, some hang banners, and some others prefer simplicity and put everything on the floor (which I think is simple, but successful in gaining attention as well).

I learned a lot from the Wonderful market, especially on how I should arrange my artworks, the unique display methods, and the eco-friendly packaging. I've left the market feeling so happy and hopeful. Perhaps one day I could open a booth at Pipit affair too eheh.

I thought I could share a few lovely things that I found at the 5th Wonderful Market. So these are some of the interesting snapshots that I found in the market.

These sock dolls are totally adorable. They looked as if they're smiling to the camera. :)



I love bird cages. And this one was decorated in fluffy red and black flower. Simple, and nice.



And this one is one of the miniature houses on display at Pipit's. Amazing details!

Invitation to The Star Kids Fair 2010

Dear my dahhling readers,

This is an official invitation from Miyyah@Kertas.

Miyyah@Kertas, together with the other 3 ACG Members are collaborating with Parenthots.com is going to hold craft workshops for kids in conjunction with The Star Kids Fair on 27th and 28th November 2010 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The Kids Fair is opened from 11.00 am-7.00 pm and the ParenThots' crafting slots schedules are as below:

Saturday (27th November 2010)

1.00 - 2.00pm (Quilling + contest)

5.00 - 6.00 pm (recycled materials and felt)

Sunday (28th November 2010)

12.00 noon - 1.00 pm (Quilling + contest)

2.00 - 3.00 pm (recycled materials and faux mosaic)

It's FREE entrance to the fair, and it's a FREE workshop for kids. However, the places are very limited and will be on first come first serve basis. Registration for the workshop is to be done on the day itself.

Who can participate?
The CHILDREN, of course (it's a Kids Fair after all hehe). Bring your kids along! If you don't have kids, bring your nieces or nephews. If you don't have any, just bring any child that you can find. And if you can't find any, then just invite yourself, and simply join the fun with us! Children who participate in the quilling workshop will get a chance to take part in a contest organised by ParenThots. Each of the kids will be photographed with their quilling artworks and will be shortlisted for web display. The best 10 crafts will be posted on ParenThots' Facebook page and one winner will be chosen based on the highest votes and Parenthots' judges decision.

And lo and behold! Here are the yummy craft books and kits (worth RM300!) to be won by one lucky child:

The creative cats

I hardly join giveaways, but I think these three deserved special mentions, and lots of LOVE from everyone!

(Everyone seems to be on giveaway mood lately in Malaysian craft scene haha)

There's always a little something that I learned from my encounters with online craft communities. Each blog that I silently read always encourages me to learn something new, something fresh, and mostly, something to ponder. One of the very first thing I learned on being a good crafter was the need to have distinctive style of your own. A style that carries you name with it, so people would be able to associate the uniqueness of your craft, even at first glance. A friend once said to me: there are many copycats around, but the creative cats are the ones that shine the most. And these three crafters are examples of those shiny creative cats (with bling2 accessories hahaha)

When I first found Azilah's blog, I knew that I've fallen in love at first sight. I adore her vintage cards to the nth degree, and envy her photography skills too. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE her colour choices and her perfect ways of combining textures and patterns on her cards. She has that distinctive vintage + retro + a bit of English style that I love to my heart's content! You have no idea how many times I'd secretly went through her blog entries and drooled over her designs hehe. And her photos... are superb! We should meet one day dear, so I could learn a trick or two from you on how to improve my camera skills hehe.

Lin of Lin Handmade Greeting Cards is giving this fluffy bear card away for her November giveaway!

Lin is one of the pioneer Malaysian paper-craft blogs that I found online - and she even have some loyal customers dated even years back (which shows how trustworthy she is). When I just started craft-blogging, she had already established herself as a true card maker. When I had the opportunity to meet her personally, my respect grew, and so did my admiration over her crafts. I could never have the patience like she has, and the neatness of her cards humbled me to improve how I made mine. Asma' of Simple Rhyme holds a special mention. She is one of the earliest Malaysian quillers I've met and I've been following her quilling blog ever since she started one. She has her own distinctive quilling style that I admire (more like envy haha), and has been quilling for years (even longer than I do!). She's neat, and clearly has more patience than I do too heh! Recently she made my jaw dropped with her awesome hand-bound books. I took one look at mine, and then hers, and immediately knew that I had to hide mine away - my poor books would feel VERY insecure standing next to hers hahaha.
